Treasure hunting (Summer learning journey)

LI: To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano girl.

This week we began our first task of the summer learning task. We had to get items from a video and thought about if we had to right items from it. We worked in groups which gave us the opportunity to think about what we were gonna make with the items we had. This was a fun task because since our school are not holiday we got to work other people from other classes.

Operation Christmas drop

LI: To write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words.
For the last 68 years the men and women of the US air force who are based at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam have been using a pilot training drill to drop much needed supplies to the people who live on the 60 remote islands that surround Guam. In my opinion I think the idea of Operation Christmas Drop is good because it brings the community together and makes people happy, it also leaves the negative thing in the past.

This was a really fun task because we got to work together in groups which then gave us more confidence to give each other feed back.

T.E.E.L Paragraph

TEEL Paragraph:

With my art I have chosen colours that represent a theme from the olden days. The different colours stand out but it gives out a angry and mysterious emotion. It also brings out a vibe where the painting wants to be in piece or wants some kind of revenge. It comes down to the popping of the colors and the shading of the clothing and the dark colours used in the painting. It tells other people that it wants to be alone with its knitting.

Provocation: Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?

LI: To identify and consider the two perspectives of this provocation to help me form an opinion.

A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today we considered both sides of the provocation, ‘Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’ We then used that infomration to help us form an opinion that we could justify with evidence. I think that we should make masks compulsory because we are still in a time where we find traces of Covid19: A virus that spreads easily.

L.I: Is to find the most efficient strategy to find the answer

This term for week 5 we were getting into more challenging questions in maths. We had a variety of questions that tested our skills on how to work with other people we dont normally work with. We were in separate groups that had a maximum of 7 people. Our groups had to work collaboratively together to find the answer to a problem or give feedback to our group. The thing that I really liked about this weeks maths is how i got to work with new people that I know i work really well with now. It also gave me an opportunity to work with new people other then my friends.

TEEL stands for topic sentence, example or evidence, explain and link ideas. We put together our idea’s and added some technical words in the making. This task was to help us revise on writing explanations as next week is assessment week so we did this collaborative challenge to remind ourselves what is needed when we write explanations.

Law of inertia

L.I: To create a DLO that explains the law of inertia.

Science is really interesting, for science we were learning about the law of motion and who created it. The person who created law of motion is a man named Isaac Newton, he was a man who discovered it and explained what it meant. The law inertia means if an object stays in rest or stays at a constant speed this motion will keep on going until unless some type of pull of force stops the object or moves it. The thing that I really liked about this task is how we got to work in groups and share our own ideas to each other and get feedback.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

Why is it important to make wise choices?

Imagine being a sea creature and seeing a piece of rubbish but not knowing what it is and eating it. So many people don't think when it comes to throwing their rubbish in the bin. Therefore if you don't throw your rubbish in the bin it will end up floating in the ocean for the next sea animal to suffer in pain.

Pollution can kill more than 50 thousand animals each year, as a result every 10 years around 500 thousand animals die. To prevent this from happening we need to use our brain and pick up any rubbish that's around you and put it in the bin. We have been so disrespectful and not knowing about our actions towards the sea animals, so we need to change the way we think right now.

Animals across the world are suffering from how much rubbish there is in the ocean, as a result turtles, seagulls and other sea animals will consume our rubbish or even get stuck in it because of our useless actions. There are bins for a reason, so it could keep our environment a safe place for our sea animals and birds.

But it's not just our actions that cause the risk of animals dying; it could be a volcanic eruption which its ashes can lead to sea creatures getting crushed by them and dieing. Pollution is a global problem which can affect our earth as well. Pollution can come from so many places like drains, rivers and strong currents that can carry all the rubbish that was in their waters and carries it into the ocean.

There are three main major types of pollution like air pollution, water pollution and land pollution so rubbish is basically everywhere. These three types of pollution can cause so much damage to our environment even ourselves, so this is why we need to stop polluting and think about the risk we are taking. Everyday at least 100 people die of pollution which is really bad for families and friends.

There are over 12 million tons of rubbish floating in our oceans every year. This must be a struggle for the animals in the ocean, and one day turtles, fish and other sea animals could go extinct from the way we are acting. Do you think we should carry on with throwing rubbish in the ocean, OF COURSE NOT we need to keep our oceans clean and safe and remember that it could cause big harm to us humans as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

L.I: To use transitional vocabulary

This week for writing we I learnt a lot about the world and the disaster about rubbish in our oceans. My explanation that I made explains to others the situation around the world and how we need to fix it. I really liked this task because it make everyone to think the way i think we need to so we can save sea animals. The thing that I really liked about this task is how we got to write about anything that the world is struggling on.

Who I will vote for

L.I:To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice

To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for Labour because they are willing to upgrade hospitals so it could help people in Aotearoa with the virus. This means if Labour Won the election in my electorate Jenny Salesa would be our member of parliament and Jacinda ardern would become the Prime Minister.

In this DLO, we have explained the consequences that come with drugs, the side effects, why it is important to make wise choices and legal and illegal drugs. In one of our learning sessions, we had learned the legal and illegal drugs. We had been given 6 scenario's(connected to drugs), which in groups, we had decided what the consequences would be. We had also learnt about the 3 different drug classes is when getting caught by the police. We were really shocked of about the amount of money and time was spent in prison. I really enjoyed this activity because it showed me the consequences of making bad choices.

Whakatauki means proverbs, for this DLO we picked a proverb and explained the meaning and the lessons we can learn from it. The proverb we picked was a day of hard work which means how hard you work in one day. I created this DLO with Karlos and Jayden. The thing that I liked about this task is how we got to do a lot of research on our whakatauki that we chose.

This week for maori language week we learnt the history behind the maori. We learnt a lot about it and why it was important, we found out that kupe and his tribe were the first people to discover New Zealand instead of captain cook. Legends says that kupe and his tribe was going to fight a big octopus until it lead them to a new island.

Maori app

L.I: Is to make an app that is based on maroi language week.

This week in New Zealand is maori language week which we celebrated with making an app and doing other challenges. This app is based on maori question  which consists of naming foods, the time, months and NZ place names. We worked in groups for this since apps take a long time to process. We ended up learning all these words by searching them up on the maori dictionary which has really good since we don't know that much maori. The thing that I liked about this task was how we got to make it super efficient.
